Public Notice Lafayette Avenue Reconstruction Des. No. 0500975 The City of Terre Haute, in coordination with Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), is planning to undertake the reconstruction of Lafayette Avenue (Des. No. 0500028), funded in part by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The project is to improve the traffic flow and storm water drainage as well as afford pedestrians safety along Lafayette Avenue, a heavily traveled major north-south arterial on the north side of Terre Haute. The project is located in Terre Haute, Harrison Township, Vigo County. The reconstruction of Lafayette Avenue (Des. No. 0500975) is necessary to improve the poor quality of the pavement, give people a safe place to walk, improve the storm water drainage, and to alleviate congestion caused by left turns in businesses and residences. The project extends from Fort Harrison Road at the southern end to Haythorne Avenue at the northern end, a distance of approximately 1.1 miles. The proposed action does not impact items listed on or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The Federal Highway Administration has issued an "No Historic Properties Affected" for the project, due to the fact that there are no historic properties within the Area of Potential Effects. In accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act, the views of the public are being sought regarding the effect of the proposed project on the historic elements as per 36 CFR 800.2(d), 800.3(e) and 800.6(a)(4). Pursuant to 36 CFR 800.6(a) (4), the documentation specified in 36 CFR 800. 11(d) is available for inspection at the office of Civil&Environmental Consultants, Inc., or can be viewed electronically by accessing INDOT's Section 106 document posting website IN SCOPE at http://erms.indot.in.gov/Section106Documents/. This documentation serves as the basis for the FHWA's "No Historic Properties Affected" finding. The views of the public on this effect finding are being sought.
